Annual Summer Vacation with Grandparents

Posted by: Christina  /  Category: Family Life

My girls spent last week with my parents in CT for their annual “vacation”. It seems that they need a break from me and my husband as much as we need an occasional break from them!

And who doesn’t love getting spoiled by their grandparents? They went to the aquarium, hiking, to the movies, and played lots of games. Somehow my parents can keep the girls more busy than we can! At home we are constantly bombarded with requests for tv and computer games but at Nana and Papa’s house it’s all about fun and games from morning til night. I guess that’s the way it should be when you’re 10 and 5!

We are truly blessed that the girls have grandparents that are young enough and healthy enough to have them visit for a whole week. They seem to enjoy the time just as much as the girls do, even though they need to nap for 24 hours straight after the girls come home!

Rainy Day Silliness

Posted by: Christina  /  Category: Family Life

My girls were a little stir-crazy today with all the rain we had. Swimming lessons were cancelled this morning and they were less than thrilled at having to go shopping with me to find a dress for a wedding. I try my hardest to let them be silly because, afterall, they ARE children and they are entitled to a little silliness, but it’s tough when that silliness blends into making annoying sounds and teasing your sister.

Dress shopping was not exactly successful so we hurried home and played a rousing game of Candy Land. I was able to do some work for my work-at-home position and do some cleaning while they watched Alice in Wonderland and then they were back to dancing (and teasing) while I made some dinner.

I wish I had that kind of energy!

Focusing My Thoughts

Posted by: Christina  /  Category: Uncategorized

I was reminded recently about the difference between a blog and a website and I realized that I was trying to do too much with this blog. First, I just wanted to write. Second, I wanted to make money. Third, I wanted to participate in memes and writing projects like Woman to Woman. Fourth, I wanted to somehow turn this into a business. Somehow I got distracted by all these things and I came up with a big, mushy, mess of a blog. All these things are great but must be implemented in the right way.

So for now, I’m going to make this more personal and write about what I want. I’ve been a SAHM for 11 years so that’s my perspective and hopefully other SAHMs will get some ideas or will at least enjoy what I have to say, in my little corner of the online world.

I’ve Been Tagged!

Posted by: Christina  /  Category: Just for Moms

Wow…I’ve been tagged by Lara at LaraVelez.com…does that mean I’ve made it to the big time in the blogging world? LOL!!

Here are the rules:

A. Each player lists 8 facts/habits about themselves.

B. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning before those facts/habits are listed.

C. At the end of the post, the player then tags 8 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog.

8 Facts / Habits About Me:

1. I’m writing this on my 14th wedding anniversary and it’s almost as hot today as it was 14 years ago! Back in 1993 (gosh, that makes me sound old!) the temps hit 107 degrees and yet we don’t look the least bit sweaty in our wedding photos.

2. I’m a great listener who likes to help her friends.

3. I’m addicted to my computer now that I’ve entered the ranks of the work-at-home mom. The amount of knowledge and technology on the internet is mind-boggling.

4. I despise doing housework and cooking. Love the clean house and good food but hate the work and preparation.

5. I was told by an art professor in college, as I was presenting my final portfolio, that he hoped I wasn’t pursuing art as a career because I wasn’t good at it. Keep in mind, this class was titled, “Art for the Non-Art Major”. Key word being “non-art”! LOL!

Why on earth is it so difficult to come up with 8 things….

6. I signed up for the epidural the second my ob/gyn confirmed I was pregnant each time. Except with my youngest, they gave me the epidural my labor sped up, so I only had 30 minutes of no pain before I had to push. What a rip off!

7. I tend to talk myself out of doing things or pursuing ideas that I have. It’s never good enough, there’s too much competition, how will I know this will work. I need to have that reassurance from others that something will work before I try it.

8. I can’t remember what I had for breakfast yesterday but I can remember our family vacation to St. Thomas when I was in 8th grade. All 6 of us thought we were going to die when we boarded this teeny, tiny, tin can of a plane in Puerto Rico on our final leg of the trip. Nobody was sitting together because they divided us by weight (mom was astounded that they weighed her purse!), one of my brothers got airsick, and I was sitting with another brother on a bench seat along the back of the plane, watching the flimsy chain that held the airplane door closed rattling everytime we hit some turbulance.

9. A bonus…I’m somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to writing and grammar.

Thank goodness, there are 8 boring facts about me. Now to find 8 friends to tag…hmm…

1. Zoe

2. Joanna

3. Lei

4. Carey

5. Morning Glory

6. Dee Light

7. Michelle

8. Newlywife
