Although I’m pretty sore from this project (2 days later!) I am pretty happy that I took advantage of the beautiful sunny weather on Mother’s Day to clean out my perennial garden bed. I think it’s pretty obvious which is the before and which is the after picture!

The biggest challenge was not cutting down any new growth. Of course, I KNOW the best time to trim back perennials is in the fall but I got lazy and the weather turned cold quickly, so that chore never got done.

Despite the sore muscles, I’m happy with the outcome. I still have a couple of smaller areas to weed and make pretty so I’m thinking I should do that soon while I’ve got my outdoor motivation working!

Better late than never! This is my entry for the Mommyfest 2008 chocolate contest. I definitely would not call myself a “photographer” and even some of my snapshots aren’t worth keeping but since the theme of the contest was “5 of something” I was inspired by these tulips. I first noticed them as green buds as the weather turned warmer but they were not real clear in the picture. I much prefer this gorgeous purple color! What’s even more amazing is that neither the deer nor the rabbits have eaten them!

If you haven’t checked out the fun stuff planned at Mommyfest 2008 yet, head over there now! There are memes, giveaways, and guest speakers while the event runs from May 12-16th. See you there!

I discovered this blog post at Natural Moms Talk Radio when someone twitted about it and I’m SO glad I clicked on the link, even though I am very much an UN-natural mom. In certain online forums this seems to be the new debate: are you a natural mom who homeschools or do you eat all that unhealthy animal fat and send your kids to the lousy public schools?

Why does there have to be any debate, or “sides,” to this discussion at all? If I choose not to eat 100% organic or hate the idea of shopping at garage sales, why should that bother a natural mom? It doesn’t bother me that you want to homeschool your kids…until you try to pass judgement on how bad the public schools are without knowing where I live.

Natural moms and un-natural moms don’t need to be so defensive about their lifestyle choices. As Carrie said, we can all learn new things from one another and so long as our children are happy and healthy, what does it matter how we live?

If you missed yesterday’s picture, you can see it here.

That little fur ball is our new puppy, Chance. He’s almost 11 weeks old and is a little terror. Good thing he’s cute!

We brought him home on April 5th and it took a day or two before he became comfortable with us but we were enjoying playing with him and watching him sniff everything in sight. In this picture, I needed a laundry basket to get the clothes out of the dryer so I dumped these dirty clothes on the floor. As you can see, curiosity got the better of him!

His latest antics have awarded him the nickname of “The Escape Artist”. We wanted to keep him limited to the kitchen while he’s being housetrained (and because he’s really silent so it’s easy to lose track of where he is) and we used the old baby gates across the doorways. Well, the little bugger can SCALE those gates, as if he is climbing a ladder, and then hoists himself over the top and makes a run for it! It is truly comical and I’m hoping I can get a video of it but darn, is he fast!!

But at least he’s sleeping longer during the night, which is a HUGE plus for me!
