Who We Are
WHo we are -why we homeschool – Our challenges and adventures
Hey there, I’m Shannon R. and I, along with my husband Zach are homeschooling parents of 3 wild boys!
This is our attempt at documenting our survival through the trials of homeschooling, educating and raising three boys, and a myriad of other wonderful things that life loves to throw in our face at the best of times.
Who We Are and What We Do:
My husband has a Master’s Degree and I have a Bachelor’s in Education with English and ESL. Together we have over 10+ years experience navigating various avenues of the academic world including homeschooling our own children for a decade.
Why we are homeschooling and why it is so important
REMEMBER: No matter what you are doing as a parent to help your child in homeschooling success you are the most qualified person to teach them if you put the effort into it. Parents know their kid best. When your child is young, no one will get as much respect and admiration from your child as you will.
Anyone Can Homeschool…
You will be able to teach them better than anyone else. Not because classroom teachers aren’t qualified, but because you are now 1:1 ratio with your child while classroom teachers have a room with a possible 1:30 ratio. And, with classroom expectations to abide by every day that can stymie progress, they may be the best teacher but even they need parental involvement or there is a disconnect in the learning process.
Knowing Who We Are Helps Us Teach Better
I know that as a previous classroom teacher myself, we put in a lot of work but if the parents are not there to help the children, then we can not help them as much as we desire.
You as the parent are that much more powerful. As an adult who has already learned so much information already (although it may be embarrassing to have the ten year old correcting your long division explanation!) Remember that it is your approach and dedication that will help them reach their greatest potential.
I think this is great! Who doesn’t need help raising kids? Especially 3 boys and I know you have some stories to tell! I look forward to reading more 😀
