How to Organize (and survive) Your Homeschool

How do you begin to organize your homeschool?
The way you organize your school for homeschooling is solely up to you and your individual family needs. Here are some ways we have organized our schooling areas over the years that have helped us…and we are always modifying and adapting new ideas as our children change and grow.
Quick ways on how to start organizing….
- Shelves or cube organizer or cubbies
- Baskets
- Buckets
- Pencil/crayon/marker boxes
- Binders with labels
- Pocket chart
- Dry erase boards
- Magnet boards
- Tables/chairs/cushions
- “Finished” work tray
- Office supplies center (area for all school supplies)
- Reading nook/library area
- Calendar (my favorite is dry erase)
Are there pencils all over your floor? Are you staring at books and papers all the time and don’t know where to start organizing?
Our family has moved a lot over the years. Homeschooling has always traveled with us and brought that new challenge at each new home. Where do we put our homeschool room? Do we have the classroom across the house or in just one room? Cubbies or just a shelf? I think each year we get a little bit better at modifying our organization. Our ideas may not suit your needs but hopefully they will get your “gears” going and help you find your organizational gold mine.
Practical Organization How To’s:
-Learning space across one room or multiple rooms
-Designated purposes for everything i.e. school room, supplies area, textbook/schoolbook area, reading room, study area etc.
-A display board i.e. an area for a calendar and area to display completed works and a checklist place.
-An endless supply of pencils.
-Pillows or chairs, couch or bean bags in a specified area
-Storage
-Purpose (what is the purpose or goal of your schooling?)
Remember that you are not alone. Many people are starting this journey like you and are figuring it out too. No solution is perfect, but with time and effort a system of organization will fall into place.
